Improv for Lawyers

Improvisation can greatly assist you with the successful practice of law. It’s perfect for both legal training and for team building within your firm! Improvising is all about learning the same skills that can help lawyers—particularly litigators and transactional attorneys—be better client advocates. Improvisation will help you to:

  • Think more quickly on your feet

  • Create a more positive work environment for your firm

  • Improve your active listening skills

  • Collaborate in a group

  • Build trust within your firm

  • Communicate more effectively

  • Problem-solve more creatively

  • Laugh more

  • Reduce stress

  • More fully enjoy interacting with clients, judges, and fellow lawyers

Several faculty members at Northwestern’s Pritzker School of Law swear by the study of improv furthering their careers. Plus, it’s a heck of a lot more fun than another Powerpoint presentation, and we have a functioning bar (the good kind).

Workshops are taught by Michael Bradt, a former high school teacher and practicing real estate attorney who has been licensed in Illinois since 2005. Throughout his career, he has advocated successfully for his clients while utilizing the improv skills he has honed for nearly two and a half decades.
